Gaviota to Pismo via HWY 1 ? Options

Any insights into taking this route vs. the 101?

Planning an annual run to Santa Maria in the spring that I will be posting here and thinking of staying in Pismo/ Grover Beach overnight instead.

Wondering if HWY 1 has anything to offer vs. the 101 besides an extra 45 minutes or so on the road.

I'm pretty sure that's where you go up in elevation and get a little warmer if you keep on 101.  This can be good at this time of year.

Grover beach is a ton cheaper than Pismo.  Now if you want to head past pismo... that's where HWY is great!

Not much to see on HWY 1 if this is the part I'm thinking of.
