Well I'm still on the road but the hotel has wireless and hubby ate enough at the local burger joint to be almost napping so here I am
Figured I'd get started on the ride log...I'll add pictures later.
Saturday: We got a late start and didn't get out of the house until almost noon so we headed out to Palm Springs. It was a great day to head out with the temperature in the Mid-80s. Because we were running so late we decided to head more or less straight out there via Freeways (5/ 134/ 210/ 57/ 10)....riding from northern L.A. county there really aren't many detours you can take that don't take you a few hours extra.
For those that know us, you know we like Casinos so we made a pitstop at Morango Casino. It was a good stop...2 hours, $900 to the plus side, and a free meal under our belt we headed off to find a hotel and ended up at the Best Westren in Palm Springs.
Once we got settled in we decided to go for a walk and found a local carnaval. Hubby and I went for a ride on the VORTEX (spinning ride like the scrambler but way faster), the Ferris wheel (not many lights to see so kinda boring), and the Zipper (the caged and much faster Ferris wheel). Our frivilous fun taken care of...We headed down the main street for a bit of window shopping. Stopped on the way back into the hotel for some Margaritas we could talk to the room..had some private type...ran my hand through my hair...and found gum?????? Ewwwwwww....must have gotten it on the Zipper
Luckily it wsa smale and I was able to get it out failry easily.
Sunday: Wanted to go up the Tram then head out for some fun. Woke up heavy wind blowing at 5 AM but was able to go back to sleep. When I woke up again at 7:30 it seemed the wind had calmed down. We got dressed and went down for breakfest by the pool....we were siting there eating, in the sun, when it seemed someone turned on the sprinklers...it was raining!
We decided to hit the Tram and get outta dodge heading toward Lake Havasu. When we got to the bottom of the Tram area and found the first parking lot too steep and cumbersome (another bike was having the same issue) finally the security guard found us and directed us to a safer parking spot. Just as we got there it started pouring then hailing and snowing
We found out it was going to only be 30 degrees at the top with a "feels like" temp of 14 degrees and decided skip it....riding cold and wet was not what we really wanted to do. We headed over to the local Harley to find it closed and the wind pushing us around really good. figured it was time to leave.
We headed down the 10 east away from the rain (or so we thought) and headed north across Joshua Tree National Park to Twentynine Palms, after getting gas we headed across the 62 toward Arizona. We had hit and miss sprinkles, wind, and mild drifting sand.
We watched a beautiful sunset over the Colorado river and pulled into Lake Havasu right after sunset. Found ourselves a Super 8 with a view of the lake (we'll see how good in the morning....
Tomorrow we are heading...ummmm...that a way...just have to be home Tuesday night
Monday: Well snow and cold weather sort of dictated the route. Rode up to Bullhead City and stopped at the AVI indian casino because hubby remembered 99 cents eggs and hash browns.....Not worth it...lost some of the money we made at tha Morongo (not all), wasted time we could have been riding, and they only had $2.99 Ham & eggs though they told us 99 cents 3 times. Not a recommended stop. Just hit the 40 to head to the Mom-in-laws by Victorville (200 miles).
Met a guy (Steve from Gilroy) that had come though deeper into AZ and he was trying to warm up. Said there was plenty of snow that way. Not snowing at the time but it was cold riding. Handed him our forum address
Stopped at Ludlow for gas and met a nice CHP officer that rides and some older gentlemen towing a Goldwing....took us 38 minutes to leave the gas station! By then it was dark
Rode the last 70 - 80 miles to Mom-in-laws in the dark. But the Moon was almost full, there were clouds to reflect light off of, and the evening though chilly was not cold so it was a nice evening ride.
Tuesday: Today we are in Apple Valley at the Mom-in-Laws....Will head home this afternoon. THinking of switching bikes with Hubby...for something to do. I'll post pictures when I get a chance...
