Hi Ron- I have been to the lost coast. It was a couple of years ago. Great scenery,Great roads-except some are full of pot holes and poor patches. Some places are very rough. Just take it easy in those places to keep from being beat to death. I prefer going from the Ferndale side towards Petroli and such, but Ferndale is an interesting town to spend a little time in while you are there. If you have time highway 36 out of Ferndale towards Red Bluff is one of the best motorcycle roads there is. You would love it-lots of curves.

I've been there in the Cage. Becareful of Cows by the coast...they are open range and appear on the road.
Great scenery though and definately worth the ride.

Looks close enough for a long day ride.
I need to figure out the roads to take, looks like ya gotta jump off hwy 1.
If anyone has it mapped out, let me know.
I'd like to make that ride soon. I love the coast in winter.

The only section I drove was the 211 from Ferndale to Humbolt Redwoods and out to the 101.

From the Frendale side-Just on the edge of Ferndale(ocean side) ther is a sign that points uphill and says Petroli and ? to the left. It is definetly cow country out there. The road comes out on 101 towards the upper end of Avenue of the Giants. Now I remember-Matole road is the name you are looking for.

There is an article in the Fall 2008 copy of the "Enthusiast" magazine, you know, the quarterly from Harley. Names cities, roads, all that stuff. The cover story is "Touring the Lost Coast"

It's a great ride! Beautiful scenery, twisties and usually nice weather. I like to stop in Ferndale and walk Main street. That town has some interesting history and has survived both, earthquakes and floods. When you ride in the Petrolia and Honeydew areas you will really enjoy the scenery. If you take a ride through the Avenue of the Giants, you'll be amazed at the size of the trees. All in all, you should have a great time.

Hmm, done the Ave... Ron, your link doesn't work. I haven't gotten 'enthusiast' yet... it came free with the new bike though so I guess I'll wait for it.
