OK folks, I've been considering the next Rally....Where will dictate when....
Zion was mentioned and I thought it would be a good ride. Then Flagstaff was mentioned and I thought that would be a great ride too....
If you have other suggestions speak up!
I was previously considering Las Vegas but I looked at Red Rock to only find 8 miles of close roads then someone was concerned folks would be more interested in staying uplate and maybe not wanting to ride due to the casino environments...good point.....not everyone but some will be like that. If someone has some great ideas for areas around there...post up because its definately not out of the running

I've ridden in Utah it's great. I'm in
As for Vegas, go out over hoover damn to kingman then to Oatman then to laughlin back into vegas. A few twisties around Oatman.
Or you can go east on 15 to Valley of Fire then go out around lake mead.

Vegas Baby (Red Rock)!!!! Haven't been in them parts since 1986. For us Northeners it would be a long ride getting there, so keep us in mind whereever the decision. September would be a good month.

OK, I voted Zion, but gotta see how far it is still. I may need to try to get more time off work.
I vote for April... Who can wait till September?

I agree - I can't wait until September. But, I'm thinking April might be a bit to cold still -- there is some high elevation along the route -- especially if we take the scenic roads thru the mountains (Yosemite ?). Might have to wait until late May -early June ?

Just so you know it snowed there in early June last year. The mountian that goes over near Brian Head is between 8 and 10 k....no way we could do April.
Your side this time would be 700+ my side 470...I've done it in one day. Our trip last time was 700+ to get to Shasta. Will allow maybe some AZ, NV, Utah, and CO folks to join in if not more.
Maybe we could do a small one early and the big one in Sept? We could check out a 3 day Death Valley run for late March early April.

We'll I think I'm gonna start looking into Zion.
The good news is that Zion Harley rents....sooooo if you want to Fly and ride we can likely get that handled.
My brother-in-law lives in Cedar City, UT which is just north so I'll ask him about weather conditions.
I did a check on distances (to Cedar city since I don't know where we are staying) and we are looking at:
172 miles from Las Vegas, NV
439 miles from Los Angeles (though 466 + for me depending on route)
500 miles from San Diego
739 miles from San Francisco
428 Phoenix, AZ
582 miles from Denver, CO
611 miles from Caldwell, ID (588 from Boise ID)
1041 miles from Portland, OR

Hey wait for me. I won't be back from Florida until the middle of June. Have a friend in Cedar City. Maybe trailer the bike/bikes to Caldwell and join Spudster on the ride down. Long way to go but sounds like a good trip. How about stretching it out a bit and hitting some of the other parks as well. They have a parks ride every year and hit all five of the National Parks in southern Utah.
Ride Safe.

The 5 park ride is the ride we ended up doing last year....you can do it in a couple of days but it's getting everyone to Moab to kick off..... That's a ride.
I figured a looping ride over the mountian and down though Zion. Can do Bryce maybe the second day? Lots of time to plan.

I never know that far in advance, but I will watch and see how this progresses. I would especially be interested in a Death Valley run in the spring if I am avalible. I think the Zion thing would be fun also, but I never know about the time off that far ahead.

Here's an idea for mid-June. My garmin said the fastest way from S.F.area is south, 99,to 58 to 15. You Bay area guys could maybe get off work early and shoot down (I know boring) to north LA area then we all go together the next morning. Be nice to go before they stop letting people ride/drive into the park. Begin/Mid Sept will be a HOT ride there.

Ok marcss, quit beating around the bush...you gonna make the next rally with or without bagger? These simple diversions (as shown in your quote) do not sidetrack me. Fess up bro....

It was 105 degrees on the ride across the desert in early June. A few days before that it had snowed down to 6000 feet. The weather was a tad unusual though it can still be rather nippy at elevation in early June. This is a tough one...July and August are totally out ...I want to go over the mountian as part of the ride so can't go too early or too late.
So no earlier then the second week of June and no later then the 2nd week of Sept....otherwise we risk weather or excessive temps. Might be warm crossing the desert either way.

What's the altitude for them mountain rides? (LOL)
Never can tell what Mother Nature has in store going whenever/wherever. The 2nd week in Sept would be ok. Got to wait for Coastrider (Don) and his Barb to get moved to Oregon (from Florida) in June.

Yah, wait for us. I will need a good ride. These guys back here don't know how to ride. Their idea of a ride is to ride in a straight line to a bar, have a drink, then ride in another straight line to another bar. I will be ready for a good twisty turny ride.
Ride Safe.

-Clutch-
P.S. Still gotta figure out this avitar thing here folks. The enemy has us surrounded again...Those poor Bastards!
