OK....I'll try not to go "oil overboard" here on this forum. You folks will have to have some patience with me though. My whole life has been around Maintenance & Metalworking. Anyway, K&N makes a great oil filter for Harley (and probably others as well). This oil filter has the same efficiency rating (10 micron) as Harley...costs about the same ($15)...and can be ordered at Autozone in chrome or black. The really neat thing is the 17mm nut built into the end of the filter that makes install/removal a snap!

P.S. The part# for my 06 softy is "KN 171-C" (The "C" is for the chrome.

I always figured it was a reusable filter.  For $15 I'll assume not.

Is there any benefit you are aware of other than the nut on the end?  I have one of those filter wrenches that clamp the end of the filter and never had an issue.

It wasn't cheap though, so those that are having trouble, this sounds like a good solution.

I bought K&N this time for the nut....make life easier.  I was too lazy to spend for the filter wrench though hubby just popped the other off with out it
